HMS Warrior - Armament

68 Pounder

Warrior mounted twenty six 68 pounders, which were the ship's primary armament.  The lower photo shows the percussion cap ignition and a device used to measure the gun's elevation.  Gun smoke was still a problem, but the ship's steam power was used to helped blow fresh air in and clear out the gun smoke.

110 Pounder Armstrong Rifles

Ten of the newly developed breech loading Armstrong rifles were used on Warrior, but they were not considered successful.  Breech blocks were unreliable, and tended to blow out when hot.  Armor penetration was no better than that of muzzle loading smoothbores.
