St Mihiel Trenches
Bois de Brule
From September 1914 well into 1915, fierce combat took place in the
wooded hills between St Mihiel and Apremont. Overlooking a German
supply road, the French built trenches based on the old Italian trace
outline of centuries passed. German attacks eventually captured
the trenches. In April 1915, Adjutant Pericard of the 95th
Infantry Regiment gained immortality by shouting, "Arise, the dead!",
rallying the wounded to renewed efforts.

Bavarian Trenches
Bois d' Ailly
In the Bois d'Ailly is the Trench de la Soif - the trench of thirst - a
German trench captured by the French in the spring of 1915, and held
for three days without food and water.
