M-2 Light
M-2A3 Light
Introduced in 1938 and armed only with machine guns, a .30 caliber and a .50 caliber in two turrets and a .30 caliber in the hull, this 10 ton tank had a maximum armor thickness of 3/4 inch. The tank could reach 30 mph with its seven cylinder engine, which was originally designed for airplanes. An example is shown here under restoration. It lacks armament. The M-2 light tank was the basis for the M-2 medium tank which led to the much better M-3 and M-4.
