M-6 Heavy Tank

 M-6 Heavy Tank

Development began in 1940 on a supertank, and the resulting M-6 was standardized in May 1942.  The M-6 used cast armor, was armed with a 3 inch anti-aircraft gun, and was powered by a 1,000 hp engine.  Despite weighing 60 tons, it could travel 25mph.  Because of its large size, it was thought too big for the roads and bridges of Europe, so only 40 were built, and none saw combat.  Although the tank's gun wouldn't match those of late in the war, the large turret ring may have allowed a better gun to have been installed later.
